I was discussing the MLP fandom with someone who is not apart of it and has expressed hatred, or at the very least, discontent towards the existence of the fandom. The things that are in quotes were some of the arguments he made against our fandom.
"The majority of them have a very serious obsession problem about a child's cartoon."
In response to this first quote, I said: Let me just stop you right there. Where is your evidence of this? You seem to be making a whole lot of generalized statements about the MLP fandom. You are stereotyping us and bashing us. I'd like to say, first of all, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking a "child's cartoon." I don't even consider cartoons to be FOR children. I consider them to be for whoever wants to watch them. They're cartoons... Let people like what they do. I'm respecting your right to like whatever you want, so instead of bashing my fandom, maybe you should allow it to do the same.
He then continued with a statement relating MLP fans to "sonicfags."
Your use of the word "Sonicfag" makes me believe that you have something against gay people. If you do not, then please do not use being gay as an insult. Thank you.
Next, he accused MLP fans of not being able to "except the underlying disgusting" parts of our fandom.
To this, I answered: Anyway - and I'm assuming here you meant to say "accept," not "except" - I've accepted the GOOD parts of my fandom pretty whole heartedly, and that is what I focus on as a MLP fan myself. The good things, to me, are our motto to love and tolerate, the importance of friendship, and the importance of love in general, really. These are all things the show supports.
Next, he stated that "inserting the cartoon into everything is a problem too"
To which I answered: But again, there is good intent behind that. The intent isn't actually to "ponify" everything. The intent is usually either to make a crossover with another show/game/whatever that the person ponifying it ALSO likes. I really think that the only reason so many things have been ponified is because MLP is so popular that all the MLP fans have at some point realized, "hey, I like crossovers and want to make one between two of the things I like," and voila, you have tons of MLP crossovers with other popular things. My advice to you, if it really bothers you that much, is to NOT LOOK at the MLP crossovers. I understand that you may come across them without intending to, but even then, you can easily ignore it and not let it bother you. If you go around yelling at MLP fans or telling us that we have an obsession or a problem with ponifying everything, you'll just look like a butthurt hater to most of us, and we won't care.
He also mentioned that he sees REALLY good artists who create nothing but pony-related things, which apparently bothers him.
So, I said: I'd like to ask: why do you believe that's a problem? Artistic freedom should be something that is praised, not shamed. There is nothing wrong with wanting to focus your artistic talents on something specific that you enjoy. Many artists have a theme, or a certain emotion/style for their work that they continually use. I don't understand why artists who are MLP fans shouldn't also have that same right.
"Most are hypocritical, attention whores with an obvious boner for animated animals."
That statement goes too far. That is a huge misconception and stereotypical judgement about our fandom. First of all, I don't understand where you even obtained the idea that MLP fans are hypocrites. I've never really come across MLP fans who are being that way. I think I already gave some good points to explain why we aren't attention whores. It may look that way because there are so many of us, but in reality, we're just doing what we like, just like everyone else. There just happens to be more MLP stuff around because there are more MLP fans, not because we're "attention whores." The last one is another huge bash people commonly use against the MLP fandom, and that's the idea that we're physically attracted to cartoon ponies. To address this, I'd like to first point some very important things out: firstly, the ponies, just like ANY OTHER CARTOON CHARACTERS, are humanized. Naturally, when you get connected with ANY character - human or not - the reality is that if the character has been humanized or in many ways represents a real person with a real and very well rounded personality, including flaws, - which, in fact, the ponies do better than most cartoon characters in my opinion - it's possible for you to see that character in the same way you might see someone in your life who is moderately close to you. Everyone does this. Everyone connects to humanized cartoon characters in some way, simply because of the emotional elements and the humanized personalities. That being said, everyone still understands that they are not human, nor are they real; and that includes MLP fans. Another thing I'd like to bring up is the fact that everyone has a libido, and just about everyone's libido is aroused in some way when something sexual is presented to them, regardless of what it is. Basically, the reason people masturbate to images of penises and vaginas (regardless of whether or not they are connected to cartoon ponies) is BECAUSE everyone has a libido and sometimes wishes to feed it that way. It is NOT because people ACTUALLY WANT to have sex with whatever or whoever they're masturbating to. It's a prominent trait in all of us to be sexual. We are, as humans, sexual animals. We like sex. That's the ONLY REASON why people masturbate to cartoon ponies. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are ponies. If people would pay attention to basic psychology, they'd understand this. Lastly, I don't believe anything I've said here is, quote, a "pathetic excuse." I believe I've made some very valid and logical arguments in defense of my fandom.
-Waits to gain support from other MLP fans-
EDIT 1/23/15: LOL guys. The person who I was arguing against blocked me because he's unreasonable, and I went to his page and saw that he HAS PONY ART IN HIS FAVORITES. I feel like he might just be confused about his feelings, which probably means he's insecure...Anyway, I also noticed that he'd recently posted a journal just hating on people who posted porn. I don't advise anyone to be like this person because usually when you're an ignorant, unreasonable, emotional and butthurt hypocrite who hates on and calls out anything you don't like, people tend not to like you. =^^=

Update 5/13/21
At the beginning of April, I started a new job at the zoo that I was furloughed from last year due to COVID. I am now a seasonal zookeeper at this zoo, rather than a seasonal educator. So far it's going pretty good, aside from the sensory overload I've been experiencing and the fatigue and soreness from the physical labor. I ordered some expensive earplugs that dampen noise, designed for autistic people and other people with sensory issues. So I hope they're worth the money. Anyway, this is my first actually paid position as a keeper, so it's super exciting. I can finally put on my resume that I've worked as an official keeper. I hope it will help me find more long-term work in the future. Aside from the updates with my career, I've been dealing a lot more with my thanatophobia lately and it has been pretty bad. I mentioned it to my therapist again, and she suggested meditation; I tried it a few times, but it's going to take more than that for me to get over this fear. Over the past
Darkness Within (Warriors)
I know Darkness Within came out months ago, but I want to talk about its events and some theories, and I also want to revisit some of the theories I had after reading Veil of Shadows. I was unsurprisingly right about Ashfur being the impostor (I had no doubt). As I discussed in my previous journal, Ashfur seemed the least concerned with giving himself away after possessing Bramblestar; in fact, the further along we get in both Veil of Shadows and Darkness Within, the more it seems like Ashfur wanted someone to find out. He behaves recklessly and completely out of character for Bramblestar all throughout Veil of Shadows, and in both books, he instills fear in Shadowsight and constantly boasts about his powers to him. He is clearly having fun torturing and controlling others, and he wants Shadowsight to know it. He obviously doesn't see Shadowsight as a threat, but attempts to get him on his side anyway, perhaps so he can manipulate him more easily. And even after Squirrelflight
Updates 10/3/20
Okaaay...it has been a long time since I posted an update on here. Not sure that anyone reads them anyway. So...back in April, I was furloughed from my seasonal educator position at the zoo because of COVID. Then this year sucked for a long time because of....well, everything. Especially in the U.S., where I live. I sat around at home and drank with my family like every week. And then my boyfriend and I went on a small vacation for our anniversary (with masks). And then I got sick (but tested negative for the rona). And then I found out I'm autistic. At 25 years old. So it's been a year. Also, GOOD news - I started an apprenticeship at a zoo just over a week ago! And they have cheetahs (they aren't in my section, but I'll get to work with them since the keepers try to let apprentices do what we're interested in). So...yes.
Eclipse
I know I'm late to the party on opinions about this, but I recently started trying to navigate dA in eclipse. And like many people, I have some problems with it - but there are also things I like about it, and some things that will simply take some getting used to. Note: I do not have core. So I'll be giving my opinion on how it looks for someone without core. Things I don't like: 1. The layout of the watch section. I hate that you have to click through more things to get to the deviations in the groups you watch. I hate that you have to click the "back" button constantly to get out of one group and get back to viewing all the groups, even if you delete all the deviations in that group. Instead of taking you back to "show all" after you delete all the watch items in one group, it shows a message that says "watch this space" and you have to manually click "< back (insert group name here)" at the top of the page. It's inconvenient and annoying. I'd rather be able to view all at the

Still feel like you're in denial and probably the worst of your fandom if you act like such a kid. Damn, look at all this butthurt !
Seriously. Get over yourself and just accept that your fandom isn't the best just like every other aren't the best as well.
Denial make it just more obvious ; )
